FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Work Zone Traffic Information System Contract AwardRenaissance Technologies to supply software and system integration services to United Rentals Highway Technologies for motorist information system on the Interstate 30 Construction west of Little Rock ArkansasJanuary 10, 2003 [Harrisburg, PA] -- Renaissance Technologies has been selected by the Highway Technologies Division of United Rentals to provide integration services and software for a motorist information system on the Interstate 30 Construction west of Little Rock Arkansas. The software, known as the Automated Information Management System (AIMS), collects traffic condition information from roadside sensors and provides motorist advisory messages on changeable message signs and highway advisory radios to alert approaching motorists to travel conditions through the work zone. Current condition information and traffic images from roadside cameras are also made available over the internet. Originally installed and used by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission at its 2-year reconstruction of 10 miles of interstate highway in west central Pennsylvania, AIMS provides automated warnings to motorists of stopped and slowing traffic ahead, of the current delay times through the work zone, and of urgent accident or detour advisories from highway transportation agencies. "Highway work zones can be dangerous places where dozens of people lose their lives every year", said John Eckert, President of Renaissance Technologies. "We are pleased that we have the opportunity to contribute to highway safety and saving lives through this product." Renaissance Technologies provides products to address the needs of individuals and organizations to remotely access information and to automatically control remote devices in real time. Renaissance Technologies' vision is to provide products that will enable its customers to access and control anything from anywhere at anytime.
